Michael Coda Cup 2012 - Charity Donation

We are pleased to announce that a cheque for £1,316.10 has been sent to Secret World. This represents the total sum raised - the costs of printing the hand records and bottles of wine for prizes are being met by the County.

There are lots of people to thank - firstly, to Ken and Ann for the
excellent administration of the event, secondly to all of the club
heat organisers and thirdly to Dave Latchem for the commentary. But we also need to thank everyone who participated and contributed to the monies raised, especially those who made extra donations above the entry fee.

We are also indebted to the continuing support from both our
affiliated and non affiliated clubs, and sincerely hope that this will
long continue.

Next year's charity will be Arthritis Research with the funds being
used to support Somerset activities or projects.

Delays - Championship Pairs Event

You will be aware we experienced significant delays during this event both at the beginning and at the interval. Although the issues that created the delays were well handled by the director, the SCBA Committee must learn from the problems we experienced so that in future the director is in a position to deal with similar issues expeditiously.
The format of the event itself is quite complicated to run, and with the necessity to score up at the tea interval, delays can be experienced at that time, particularly if appeals have to be dealt with.
I will be conducting a thorough review of the event over the next few days and the SCBA Committee will be considering my findings and recommendations at its next meeting. The conclusions from the findings will be published on the SCBA website in the normal way after the next committee meeting.
The numbers that turned up on Saturday were the most we had seen at this event for a number of years. It was therefore a real pity we experienced the problems we did. I genuinely hope members will have not been put off from entering the event next year.

Change of AGM Date

It has recently come to our attention that the EBU has changed their original published date for the Pachabo event and it now clashes with the date of our currently published 2012 AGM date.

Four members of the county's Executive Committee have made it through to this year's final of the county's Championship Knock Out Teams event, the winners of which will be automatically invited to represent the county in the Pachabo event. As a result it has been decided to bring the AGM forward by a week. The new 2012 AGM date is Saturday 9th June 2012. The AGM venue will still be at Oake with a start time of 1pm. I hope that no members are seriously inconvenienced by this date change.

Resignation of County Secretary and New Appointment

I regret to inform members that Rachael Brown our county secretary has resigned. She has found that with her other commitments, the county secretary role has become too demanding on her time. Rachael has been our county secretary since 2008, and on behalf of the members I would like to thank her for the service she has provided.

I am pleased to report that Joe Patrick will cover the county secretarial role until the next AGM on **17 June 2012. Joe will be co opted as a member of the Executive Committee until that time.
The change in county secretary will take place with immediate effect, and Rachael will work with Joe to ensure a smooth transfer of the county's records.
Should you wish to contact Joe, his contact details are as follows:
